Cleaner Water Together
This project aims to address water quality impairments and concerns in the watershed.
The Ozarks Environmental and Water Resources Institute (OEWRI) at Missouri State University and H2Ozarks received a $190,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources through the Federal Nonpoint Source Section 319 program to complete a watershed-based plan for multiple subwatersheds within the Table Rock Lake area.
The grant period runs from November 2023 to December 2026 and requires an additional 40% non-federal match by the grant partners.
It is no surprise to residents and businesses on the lake that Table Rock Lake is considered a high-quality waterbody of economic and recreational significance for the State of Missouri. This project aims to address water quality impairments and concerns in the watershed, and to update a previous plan by adding water quality modeling information. The end result of this project’s effort is to obtain acceptance from the US EPA of a nine-element watershed management plan for the Table Rock Lake – White River watershed. An accepted plan provides a roadmap for a holistic approach to water quality protection and improvement of our most treasured resource.
Take Action
This project offers an exciting opportunity for our community to take responsible action toward protecting our lake region. The input of our landowners, business owners, elected officials, agency representatives, and others is critical. For that reason, H2Ozarks is seeking interested stakeholders to participate in the watershed planning process.
Watershed-based management planning typically occurs through these six steps:
a. Building partnerships,
b. Characterizing the watershed,
c. Finalizing management goals and identifying solutions,
d. Designing an implementation program,
e. Implementing the watershed-based management plan, and
f. Measuring progress and making adjustments through adaptive management.
H2Ozarks’ role during this project will be to identify stakeholders and communicate project outcomes. H2Ozarks will facilitate stakeholder meetings in which OEWRI will present information on the watershed planning process and status of the management plan development. During these engagements, stakeholders will contribute to the development of the watershed-based management plan, and an emphasis will be placed on the need for cooperative implementation of beneficial practices, and the socioeconomic benefits that can accrue to all stakeholders from protecting and restoring waterbodies in the watershed.
The H2Ozarks’ Basin Bulletin will periodically report to the public on meeting outcomes and plan development. Make sure to subscribe to stay informed!
