Our History

H2Ozarks is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization protecting water quality in the Ozarks of Arkansas and Missouri. For over two decades, we’ve worked to foster community action through education, outreach, research, and public policy. Our work empowers long-term water quality improvements through public engagement and science-based strategies.

Mission Statement: To protect and improve water in the Ozarks by promoting community commitment, public policy, research, and local solutions.

Vision Statement: Safeguarding water – our greatest natural resource.

H2Ozarks was founded in 2001 when a group of local businessmen noticed the declining water quality of Table Rock Lake at the time. They formed a vision for the Ozarks to have the four cleanest manmade lakes in North America, and dedicated their time and energy into making that a reality through our organization. In the last two decades, that work has been represented by the Upper White River Basin Foundation, Ozarks Water Watch, and, as we’re called today, H2Ozarks. Although our name has changed, our work remains the same as was established by our founders — to protect and preserve the lakes, rivers, and waterbodies we all love, enjoy, and depend upon.

Water is the lifeblood of our communities. It shapes nature’s beauty, fuels outdoor adventures, drives economic growth, and supplies our drinking water. Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri are fast-growing regions, drawing more people who have come to love this place as much as we do. With this rapid urbanization comes new pressures on the clean water we too often take for granted. Protecting these vital natural resources is essential for our livelihood today and for future generations across the Ozarks.

We believe the greatest change comes when we work together. Join our mission to create Cleaner Water Together today!
