Annual Beaver Lake Volunteer Day Event: September 29th, 2025 Register Now
In 2014, H2Ozarks (formerly Table Rock Lake Water Quality) coordinated the replacement of the old, worn-out parking lot at the Kimberling City Shopping Center with new Permeable Interlocking Concrete Pavers (PICP). Then director Gopala Borchelt organized the project, which was funded through a grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the owners of the Kimberling Center.
The semi-permeable pavers of the parking lot better capture and filter stormwater, which soaks through the seams of the pavers and down through the underlying sand, gravel, and soil. This removes traffic-borne contaminants such as oil, grease, metals, sediments, minerals (salts, detergents), nitrates, and other debris from the water before it eventually filters into Table Rock Lake.
The Center is close to Table Rock Lake, and the parking lot is used by thousands of locals and visitors alike. This project not only improves water quality, but it also shows the public how low-impact development can provide beautiful and functional infrastructure. The PICP allows stormwater to soak through the seams between the pavers.
